Hugging Face, a leading platform for artificial intelligence developers and researchers, is reportedly exploring a possible sale that could value the company at around $13 billion.

According to reports, the AI company is working with a bank to explore interest from potential buyers. The discussions are still at an early stage, and there is no confirmed deal or buyer at this time.

A sale at $13 billion would be a major increase from Hugging Face’s previous valuation. The company was valued at around $4.5 billion in 2023, when it raised $235 million from investors including Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Intel, Qualcomm, IBM and Salesforce Ventures.

Hugging Face has grown into one of the most widely used platforms in the open-source AI community. Its Hugging Face Hub allows developers and researchers to share, discover and use AI models and datasets.

The platform hosts millions of models and datasets covering areas such as language, computer vision, robotics and other machine learning applications. Developers can use these resources to build and test their own AI products.

The company is different from AI firms that focus mainly on developing a single large model. Instead, Hugging Face provides tools and infrastructure that allow developers to work with models from many different sources.

Possible sale remains uncertain

The reported $13 billion figure is not a confirmed transaction value. Hugging Face is reportedly checking interest from possible buyers, but there is no guarantee that the process will result in a sale.

No potential buyer has been publicly identified so far. The company could also decide to raise more funding or continue operating independently.

The reported discussions come at a time when demand for AI infrastructure is growing rapidly. Companies that provide tools, platforms and services for AI developers have attracted significant interest from large technology firms and investors.

Hugging Face has also expanded beyond its original focus on AI models. In 2025, the company acquired French robotics startup Pollen Robotics, adding robotics to its growing AI ecosystem.

If a deal is eventually completed at around $13 billion, it would represent a significant jump from the company’s 2023 valuation of $4.5 billion.

For now, however, Hugging Face remains independent, and the reported sale discussions are still at an early stage. Any final deal would depend on buyer interest, negotiations and the valuation the company is ultimately able to secure.
